PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE SUBMITTING. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES LISTED WILL RESULT IN YOUR SUBMISSION BEING DELETED AND COULD RESULT IN PERMANENTLY BLOCKING YOU FROM SUBMITTING IN THE FUTURE.
All submissions for this pre-publication must be sent by March 15th. I hope to have the finished product out some time in April.
In no particular order and subject to changes (subtractions and additions) as new situations arise.
Submissions will only be accepted with the piece of art and an e-mail. If your work is chosen to be published, you will be contacted for details to be used in the publication along with your art.
You must choose one of the categories to submit your art to and it must relate to that category. Only one entry per category per artist can be submitted for a publication. Once submissions open for the next publication you can enter again if you wish. The categories will be as follows:
Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, White, Word, & Feature
The color categories do not have to be monochromatic, this is about color theory so make sure the work speaks to what that color means and represents.
The word category is for poetry and short stories (1,000-1,500 words max) and need to reference color or color theory.
The Feature category is for artists who wish to have a feature in the publication, submissions for this will be based on talent and do not have to be color specific or color theory based. There will be a minimum of three works of art featured (including the cover art) and a maximum of five. This category will be judged critically.
All categories will be 'judged' blindly (as detailed in the first rule) to offer as much fairness as possible.
Absolutely NO nudity, sexually suggestive, violent, hateful, gore/horror, religious, or political related art. No 'cause' propoganda. Any submissions falling in to one of these categories will be disqualified immediately. 1810 is meant to be a publication for everyone (all ages, races, religions, political backgrounds, etc) so all art needs to remain neutral. This is not to say you, as an artist, cannot champion a cause with your art. This rule is for art you plan to submit to this publication only. A few clarifications; dark/macabre art is acceptable so long as it stays out of violence and gore, certain causes may be allowable (curing disease, feeding hungry, etc) but please feel free to ask if you think it is questionable.
Regular Submissions-
Artists wishing to be considered for the publication need to choose or create a work that is based on one of 10 color categories. Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, or White. Artists may submit ONE WORK ONLY per category. Separate e-mail will need to be sent for each category entered with the subject line being the color category sent.Word Submissions-
Writers wishing to have their work published need to send the poem or short story that is no more than 1,500 words. There MUST be a definite color or color theory concept to the poem/story. If it does not, it will not be considered.Feature Artist-
Artists wishing to submit to be the featured artist will need to submit three images for consideration. You will also need an online presence such as a website, blog, or Facebook page for readers to visit and see more of your work. The feature will be mostly about the art, but will contain a short bio about the artist. (Online presence information will be gathered if your work is chosen. DO NOT SEND IT WITH YOUR SUBMISSION.)TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
Send an e-mail with the subject line stating ONLY the color category(Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, or White), Word, or Feature so I can easily filter the incoming submissions. Subject lines that have anything else will be deleted and not considered! (If you are e-mail a question, please put Question in the subject line to prevent deletion.)There should be NOTHING in the body of the e-mail unless you are submitting to the Word category. You should attach an image of the art you would like considered. The image name should be the title of the work (use the color category if there is no title). Artists submitting to the Word category should have the title and work in the body of the e-mail. Feature submissions need to have a minimum of three works attached and a maximum of five (remember, feature submissions do NOT require a color theme).
Please do not put any information other than what is listed above. The judging will be based SOLELY on the artwork and not on the artist.
*By submitting work to the e-mail listed below you are giving 1810: The Art Digest permission to use your art in an online and print publication. There will be no transference of copyright from the artist. The artist will retain all rights to the work submitted.*
